Although it’s usually categorized as a work of horror, The Sixsmiths is actually a comedy about an ordinary family of Satanists who have fallen on hard times.

The Sixsmiths is the work of J. Marc Schmidt (script, art) and Jason Franks (script, lettering). Schmidt is the author of the graphic novels EGG STORY and EATING STEVE, available now from Slave Labor Graphics, as well as the non-fiction book SECRETS OF POPULAR CULTURE. Franks is the author of the graphic novel McBLACK as well as numerous short stories in prose and comics.

The Sixsmiths webcomic originally ran on this site on a weekly basis while Franks and Schmidt prepared the first Sixsmiths vol.01, which was published by Slave Labor Graphics in 2010. Many wonderful guest collaborators contributed to the webcomic, including Jen Breach, Trevor Wood, Mike Athey, Greg Gates and Luke Pickett. The webcomic features short stories about the situations and characters portrayed in vol.01, which is constituted of longer story arcs–but the graphic novel is a wholly new work; not a collection of the strips posted on this site. Some of the strips from the webcomic were also published as The Sixsmiths #1, which was sold as a #$1 promotional book at San Diego Comicon and in comic stores.

The webcomic is still irregularly updated, but there has been no schedule since the the vol.01 came out.

In 2012 Franks began working on a sequel, The Sixsmiths Vol.02, which he is now producing with a team of artists. Stay tuned for more information!
